Eligibility & Audition Requirements

The NYCDA Summer Dance Intensive will accept a limited enrollment of aspiring professional dancers ages 14-19. Admittance is granted by video audition.

• All 2012-2013 NYCDA Regional Outstanding Dancer Scholarship Winners and Runners-Up are automatically accepted to the program.*
• All 2012-2013 NYCDA Regional Convention Triple Threat Scholarship Winners are automatically accepted to the program.*
• All 2013 ONSTAGE NY Regional Title Winners are automatically accepted to the program.*
• All 2013 ONSTAGE NY Regional Triple Threat Winners are automatically accepted to the program.*

*Entire Application process and video placement DVD still required of ALL accepted dancers. No application fee necessary.

Application Guidelines

All prospective NYCDA Summer Dance Intensive students must provide the following:

• Completed application form
• Photo or headshot with a resumé, if available
• 2 letters of recommendation from dance instructors or qualified dance professionals
• Video/DVD (required of ALL dancers in attendance for audition/placement).
• Copy of Birth Certificate
• Non-refundable Application Fee of $35.00
• 1”x1” photo for identification card

All applications must be postmarked by April 5, 2013 and will be notified by April 29, 2013.  

EARLY DECISION applications will be accepted only if no financial assistance is requested. EARLY DECISION applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2013 and will be notified by April 1, 2013.  

Video or DVD Audition Guidelines

All video/DVD audition tapes must include the following:

• Video intro of dancer stating name, age, and all material presented on the video.
• Ballet - (required) Present both a short adagio and grande allegro combination demonstrating control, line, extension, jumps and turns.
• Jazz - (required) Present short jazz and/or lyrical combination.
• Solo performance piece is not required but may be submitted. Up to three different solos may be presented to demonstrate a variety of styles - 3 minutes max each.
• Tap - not required but must be submitted if interested in the Tap classes.
• Singing - not required but should be submitted. All dancers will participate in some level of Vocal Training classes. Include live vocal presentation of a Broadway uptempo and ballad.

Videos must be in VHS/DVD format - max length of 15 minutes. DVD format must be DVD-R. Videos must be marked with name and address and must also include a printed index of all material presented.

Videotapes/DVDs will not be returned unless accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope.
